Project description

The exhibition is part of a series of events celebrating 40 years of the restoration of the independent Faculty of Architecture at the CVUT in Prague remembering it in the form of a selection of 40 built projects by teachers and alumni always presented by one large-size photograph.
We divided the hall into three triangles for the theme of the exhibition. The largest of them opens the space from the entrance towards the opposite wall. The selected photos of the built projects arranged on free-standing panels are displayed on five steps. We added period school works by (not only) the presented architects of these rather commonly known buildings and placed them into the remaining areas aside this hall, symbolically separating them from the central space by a penetrable wall consisting of textile strips printed with names of all 4389 alumni graduated from the Faculty in the past 40 years.
In the anteroom, the exhibition is accompanied by portraits of Grand Old Men and Women, moments from the school life, activities of the Association of Students of Architecture, books by pedagogues or alumni, and a projection of two films: a documentary “Jednoduchej dům/A Simple Building” by Hedvika Hlaváčková about the new Faculty building and its architect Alena Šrámková, and Jana Chytilová’s “Kritická židle: Rostislav Švácha/The Critical Chair: Rostislav Švácha”.
